Up into the mountains for a week we go. We were lucky enough to have the kids join us for a long weekend. We went camping in Central City, CO. The first day we just kind of hung out and visited with everyone.
The next day we drove into Rocky Mountain National Park on a different side so we could see that. I was not that organized for this week so I forgot to get a timed-entry pass. We had to leave early to get to the park before the timed entry passes began.
Our first stop was at a viewpoint that over looks the south side of the park. As we were driving the mountain we spotted some Elk with big antlers. We parked off to the side and started walking out on a trail to see if we could spot them, we did. There were about 3 of them at a very far distance. The pictures do not do them any justice. While we were out there we saw some more Marmots. YEAH!
We then made our way to the Alpine Visitor Center. When we were there 3 weeks ago the stairs to the view point and the cafe were closed due to snow on the ground, this time that was all gone so we were able to walk up the stairs to the view point. There was another Elk laying down taking a rest. We got a great family picture up top too. We then took the kids over to another viewpoint which I call Marmot hill. This is where we saw tons of Marmots playing together and were so close to us. The parking lot was packed, so we stayed with the vehicles while the kids walked down to see the view and all the Marmots. I think they were surprised at how close the Marmots they got to them. They loved it!
After seeing the sights on that side of the park we decided to head back down. As we were heading down we were finally able to see a Mama Moose and baby in a river. I am not sure what it is about Moose but they are just gorgeous and majestic animals. We were driving a little further and came across two more Moose in a field.
Then we went and had a late lunch at Grand Lake and decided to head back home. What a very long day we had. It was such a great one though since we got to make more memories with the family.
