Fairy Falls Trailhead and West Thumb Geyser Basin
The next morning we set off to go hike to Fairy Falls. This is a 4.5 mile out and back hike that takes you to a wonderful water fall. A little off the beginning of the trail is to go up a bunch of stairs and look at the Grand Prismatic Spring. The view was Amazing!!!
Getting up to the top of the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook platform is just amazing. This is a definite must see if you have the time. On a previous trip we have walked the boardwalk of the Grand Prismatic Spring, but seeing it from above just gives you a different viewpoint. It truly is a sight to see. Check out the picture below.
After looking at the amazing site below us we headed back down and to the Fairy Falls Trailhead. As we reached the cut off for the trail there was a sign that said “Caution Grizzley Bear has been seen.” I think the previous week it had been closed due to a Grizzly Bear attack. It’s a little scary but the trail is quite popular and we had our bear bells, bear spray and tried to talk the whole way so we made noise.
We started out in open land and then the trees got more thick which was kind of freaky because we codlin’t see what was out there anymore. I started hitting my trekking poles together to make more noise since we were the only ones on the trail at that moment. Finally we reached the falls and it was totally worth every step we took.
We sat down and had a snack, saw some marmots and some other little critters. We just stopped and took the moment in and relaxed for a bit. It is nice to not hear any noise while out there in nature. Then we started back the way we came. We made it back to the vehicle and went off to our next stop on the itinerary that day.
The nest stop was West Thumb Geyser since it was on the way back to our campsite. We stopped and walked around the boardwalk. I think the Abyss Pool was such an amazing blue color, it reminded me of portions of the Caribbean Sea we have visited. We saw the Fishing Cone and all of the other geysers that were there. When we got back to our site we realized we were tired and hungry, our 2nd day was absolutely perfect.
